Living and hunting in dereth

Living on dereth is not an easy challenge as it looks like. You have to be always warned and careful. Especially if you are in wilderness. You never know when you will get LAGd or your computer will crashes. I’m going to explain here you how to survive in a combat and what you have to do making your life easier and long.

First of all we should know the basic rules here. We may get killed but the important thing is how we going to protect our self. The anwer is to know the right protection against the specific attack style. Basicly there are 3 types of attack style. These are Melee, Missle and Magic. Of course there are their defence types as well. But the defences are only for not getting hit (eved or resist). They dont reduce damages that players recieves. So reducing the damage we need to protect our self.

There are 2 types of damage (direct – melee damage and magical damage). The protecion for the melee damage is mostly impenantrability and banes, and for magical is armor (life magic) and protections. If an Umbris Shadow attacks you with war magic the only defence and damage reducing is the armor self and protection self spells. No matter how high AL armor you wear (with unparalell prtections) or how high burden you are you will recieve the same damage as you are naked. So that means if you going to fight some creatures uses only magical attack you can go naked dont worry about wearing armors.

If you fight with melee or missle creatures like olthois, tuskers and banderling trashers you will a good armor and of course good protecitons on this armor like Imp. and Bane. Then you can cast some life magic protections on you they will help you and reduce the damage as well but not much as the bane spells do. Exmp: if you pick a fight with trasher (he uses only cold throwing weapons or cold clubs..) and if you protect your self olny with Armor 6 and Cold Prot. 6 (and a robe with Imp.6 on it) that does not help you much and eventually you get killed if you dont run away. As far as you wear an armor with poor or low level cold protection on, the Life Magic protections are not helping you much, you will still recieve almost the same amount of damage. But if you have Unparalell protected high level armor on you and no Life Magic protection, that will help you more to survive.

Burden is the key for melee fight. Even if you are a magican, when you are over burden and fight with a melee creature, you will get hurt much more. But if you are %250 burden and fight with creatures has only magic attack like fragments, burden does not change the damage.

Last thing to know is where the creatures hit. Like many people you might get killed by a Tusker and dont know how he hits so crazy (some hits are 4-5 some are 40-50). The answer is all creatures have their target point and if you protect those points you will get the max. protection. Tuskers hits your body, head and hands and many player dont have gauntlets. Olthois uses only piercing and usually to your hands but never to your head (so you can drop your helm or heamue and take a fez with armor 6 or piercing prot. 6.

Finally to live and hunt in dereth is up to how much you protect your self against what kind of a creature you hunting. Getting killed and clearing vitea is mostly the effective way to gain XP, but spending time form LS to your corpse and hunting area is the most wasting time as well.
